Antioxidants

Antioxidant testing is a part of the multi-faceted weight loss programs at Nutritional Weight Loss Center in Prescott, Arizona. Our center utilizes a non-invasive scanner that allows us to accurately test the levels of antioxidants in your body, rather than using old inaccurate blood tests. This scanner is used as a basis to determine the level of antioxidants in your body and helps us to create a customized weight loss program to increase antioxidant levels if needed, thus aiding in your weight loss goals.

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. An antioxidant is a molecule capable of inhibiting the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons or hydrogen from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. In turn, these radicals can start chain reactions. When the chain reaction occurs in a cell, it can cause damage or death to the cell. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions. They do this by being oxidized themselves, so antioxidants are often reducing agents. Antioxidants are widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements and have been investigated for the prevention of disease such as cancer, coronary heart disease and even altitude sickness.

Antioxidants are the nutritional equivalent of man's best friend – they are loyal protectors and nurturers of our cells, repelling disease, and promoting good health. Antioxidants act as "free radical scavengers" and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals. It is important to get your antioxidant levels tested as they are important to and improve overall healthy as well as help promote weight loss. The amount of antioxidants in your body is directly proportional to how long you will live, making it imperative to get your antioxidant levels checked.

Antioxidant testing is available to both non-patients and active weight loss patients. Our Prescott office serves patients across all of Northern Arizona and all of the cities in the Phoenix metro area by appointment. Please contact the Nutritional Weight Loss Center at (928) 350- 8686 to schedule an appointment.

This device gives you your score on their antioxidant meter in seconds. Dr. Oz loves it! A representative then teaches you how to raise your score, and because it’s so fast tracking the progress is very easy. You simply place your hand over the device for a few seconds, no heat or pain, and the administrator will give you a score and color. Blue representing 50,000 points and higher is the highest level, while red representing 19,000 points and lower is the danger zone. There’s more information about it on their site.
